As a doula I accompany women in labor to help ensure a safe and satisfying birth experience. I've attended Birthingway College of Midwifery (2005), the DONA International conference (2008), three series of childbirth education classes, and a Hypno Babies workshop. My certification is from Birthingway's doula program. I have served as a doula at ten births, including both home and
hospital
births, natural and aided by medication. I also volunteer with the local
teen
program, Doulas
Supporting
Teens as a doula and a parenting group leader. I've lived in Eugene, Oregon for the past ten years. I’ve been fascinated by birth for as long as I can remember and feel that attending a birth is one of the greatest privileges a person can have. Birth is an incredibly special and powerful event, and all mothers and families deserve to be supported and well-informed throughout the process. My goal as a doula is to help provide support for birthing parents and families while remaining respectful of the very personal nature of birth. I had my own baby in February 2009. My personal blog about life as a new parent is Mommy and Sweet Pea Make a Blog.Laura Finnegan - Laura@naturallynurturingdoulas.com I am a DONA-certified doula, and I have attended 15 births as a trained doula. I recently completed CAPPA Childbirth Educator training. My path to becoming a doula started way before I knew what one was. After having my first child, I accompanied two of my sisters into the delivery room for the births of three nieces. I found myself with the desire to search for a different approach to childbirth with my second pregnancy and learned about doulas. I was so grateful to have one at that birth. Six months later I attended a close friend’s delivery, and I took my DONA training shortly after supporting her again with her second son’s birth. I loved being a part of these births, loving and supporting my sisters and friend. Becoming a doula seemed like a perfect fit. I currently volunteer with Doulas Supporting Teens. I have been able to not only serve our community as one of their doulas, I have also gained valuable knowledge through their continuing education, including training in Perinatal Mood Disorders and Hypno Babies Doula training. I am married and blessed to be a homeschooling mom of three. Each of my children's births was very special and very different. I happily support women in their birth choices. Choosing a home birth, birth center, or hospital setting? Midwife or OB? Seeking medication or natural pain management? Each woman has different desires and support needs during their pregnancy and labor. There is no judgment, I offer information to make informed birth choices, referrals and resources, and constant unconditional support.
